Southeast Asia Food Group is a family company dating back to 1988 when husband and wife duo, Jie Ming Liang and Gigi Liang, opened one of Chinatown’s first Asian grocery stores on Mulberry Street. Now led by Kevin Liang, the couple’s son, Southeast has evolved into a premier supplier of diverse Asian ingredients to almost 1,000 businesses in and around New York City.

FROM ONE ASIAN GROCERY STORE

At the heart of Southeast’s core is a family business where the Liang family supplied groceries and ingredients for their community and neighborhood. Chinatown and New York cuisine has evolved considerably from decades past but the family values that drove Southeast’s success remains the same. While the business is much larger now, the role Southeast plays in sharing Asian ingredients and helping entrepreneurs succeed in the food and beverage industry is a role Southeast holds in high regard.

NEW YORK’S LEADING ASIAN SUPPLIER

Today, Southeast sources ingredients from countries all over Asia and domestically from locally grown produce to emerging Asian American brands giving chefs and restaurant owners an incredibly diverse array of options. In fact, the Southeast catalog has grown into thousands of unique items featuring countries, cultures, and communities that represent almost every flavor of Asian cuisine.

OUR MISSION

There is no greater sensorial experience than that of trying new and exotic foods for the very first time. Our first bites often become our most lasting memories as the flavors connect us to a new world of people, culture, and history. At Southeast, we live to provide the ingredients chefs need to bring their imaginations to life. We strive to be the trusted partner they require so that they can focus solely on creating the many first bites to follow.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

At Southeast, we take great pride in the reputation we’ve built as a family company. The values that started our business in 1988 and helped us evolve into the organization we are today continue to serve as our guiding principles.

01.

Honesty.

Honesty promotes trust and accountability. So, we must always strive to be honest with ourselves and each other.

02.

One Team.

We are one team. No individual job description is more important than another. We must go beyond our own duties to help and support each other as needed.

03.

Clients First.

We succeed when our clients succeed. Our job isn’t done upon delivery. It’s all the steps afterward that matter most.

04.

Keep Hustling.

We grow because we constantly evolve. It isn’t overcoming today’s challenges that defines us but overcoming tomorrow’s.

05.

Deliver flawlessly.

Anybody can move a box from point A to point B. Delivering flawlessly requires obsession with detail and unwavering dedication.

06.

Ready for anything.

In our business, unexpected hurdles are constant. If we aren’t ready for change then we’ll never learn to adapt.
